Frequently Asked Questions

1. What types of therapy do you offer?
I specialize in individual therapy for individuals 16 years old and older, focusing on areas such as anxiety, depression, adjustment, life transitions, trauma, and relationship challenges. I also incorporate somatic approaches, mindfulness, and other evidence-based practices tailored to each client’s needs.

2. Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?
I offer both virtual and in-person sessions, depending on your preference and location. In-person sessions are held at Therapy For The People, while virtual sessions are conducted via a secure telehealth platform. For clients in Pennsylvania, I offer virtual sessions only. I am licensed to provide therapy in both Maine and Pennsylvania.

3. How long are therapy sessions?
Individual therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes. Consultation and supervision sessions may vary depending on your needs.

4. What are your fees, and do you offer a sliding scale?
Therapy sessions are $160 per session. Supervision is $120 per hour. I understand financial challenges and do offer a sliding scale for those with limited resources. Please contact me to discuss your situation.

5. Do you accept insurance?
I am in network with most insurance providers. If I am out of network, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. It’s best to check with your provider about your specific coverage.

6. What’s your cancellation policy?
I require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or no-shows will be charged the full session fee.

7. How do I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule an appointment by contacting me directly at (207) 401-8743 or jessicabrownelcsw@gmail.com. I aim to respond within 48 hours to set up a time to consult that works for you.

8. What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and explore what brings you to therapy. We’ll discuss your goals, any immediate concerns, and how we might work together. There’s no pressure to cover every detail right away; in fact, things will unfold naturally over time as you feel ready. Therapy is a process, and we’ll approach it at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

9. What’s the difference between supervision and consultation?
Supervision focuses on supporting mental health professionals working toward licensure, helping them develop clinical skills, navigate ethical dilemmas, and strengthen their professional identity. Consultation, however, can be tailored for both mental health professionals and organizations. It provides guidance on mental health strategies, program design, or professional development, and can also address systemic challenges or specific organizational needs.

10. Do you offer group therapy or workshops?
Yes, I occasionally offer workshops and group sessions on topics like somatic reparenting, mindfulness, and managing stress. Check my website or contact me for upcoming offerings.

11. What is a Good Faith Estimate?
A Good Faith Estimate (GFE) is a document that provides an upfront summary of the expected costs for your therapy or consultation services. This is part of the No Surprises Act, which aims to give clients a clear understanding of their financial responsibility before starting services.

The GFE outlines the estimated cost of sessions based on the frequency and length of treatment. While this estimate is not a contract, it helps ensure transparency so there are no surprises about the cost of your care.

If you have any questions about a Good Faith Estimate, feel free to reach out to discuss it further.
